Animal Sounds!
Leah has been getting better and better with her words and her animal noises. I think my favorite is when she says please (she pronounces it more like "bweeeeeze"). Either that or when she tells me what an elephant says (she pretty much just lifts up one arm - sometimes two - like an elephant's trunk). Well, here she is:
Daddy had a short day (of training) at work the other week, so Leah and I drove into Dallas to drop him off and took a little trip to The Galleria to have lunch. We found this fun play place with lots of animals for Leah to point at, pat, and try to climb. It was a fun afternoon.

I can't wait to take her to the zoo to see some real animals!

Visiting with Maria!
We were lucky enough to have my good friend Maria in the Dallas area for her entire Christmas break. It was so nice to have one of my bestest friends within a 20 min. drive again! I had a great few weeks. We went out for lunch, got our hair cut, enjoyed some delicious homemade meals, and made a few Starbucks runs. I should give her a hard time for moving away from Dallas right before I moved down here, but instead I'll try to be happy that she is having fun in DC and studying hard to be a rock star Nurse. Anyway, I was delighted to get to spend some quality time early in January visiting with Maria. And so was Leah.

Joe and Leah haven't quite gotten the "smile for the camera" thing down yet:

As a bonus, Leah and I got to visit with the Fox family. Leah was pumped to have so many play dates!

And a Happy New Year!
A Very Merry Christmas
This year we enjoyed a wonderfully quiet, relaxed Christmas. While we did miss our families, it was nice to have our own little Christmas without any holiday traveling. There were no airports, no delays, no rushing around. It was lovely. A little dusting of snow would have made it pretty much perfect (but we are in Dallas, so I guess that would have been asking kind of a lot.)
In honor of the Bird family tradition, we began the celebration of the birth of our Lord with Christmas Eve Mass followed by a spread of tasty hors d'oeuvres and a bit of champagne.

Christmas morning, we woke up, checked our stockings, poured the mimosas, ate brunch, and dove into the presents.

In case you were wondering, yes, we did stay in our pajamas all day (until right before dinner actually).
Merry Christmas everyone!
